Gateshead ADHD Support have taken the decision that for the foreseable future we will not support families in DLA applications. Whilst we completely understand that this is a vital service we are taken the decision for the following reasons:

All of our staff are volunteers and have ADHD children themselves, they lead hectic lives and yet take the time of day to help other people. Whilst we did not mind helping with these applications they take a lot of of our personal time. Sometimes hundred of hours over many months.

However following one particular tribunal one of our staff could not attend on the actual morning of the tribunal because one of their children were very poorly and in need of hospit alisation.

We offered to the family to contact the tribunal and postpone, they decided to go ahead and even the tribunal offered to postpone, they declined.

They lost the tribunal. Then went on to blame our member of staff for loosing. But they then could not complain direct to us but complained to the charity that referred the family to us,and totally doing a character assassination on our member of staff.

This has caused us great distress and feel non of our volunteers who put hours and hours of their free time in to help, should never have to endure this, so we are sorry but we have withdrawn this service.

This family also complained that our member of staff did not ring them to tell them how their son was..... our families personal business is nobody elses business.

It is for reasons like this that many support groups close especially those run by volunteers.

We hope the family are happy with this outcome. Evan though as we say they could or would not complain direct to us.

Incidentally, our good working relationship with the charity that referred this family to us is still intact and working very well.
